Véritable bande originale d'une vie épique, Baloji nous emmène depuis les récits de sa prime enfance au Congo à ceux de son existence en Belgique au sein d'une famille d'adoption. Balo' pose un regard afropéen, quelque chose comme un refus de juger son pays et ses parents dès lors qu'il ignore beaucoup d'eux. Ces histoires poignantes sur un flow tendu font de cet album une perle rare dont on ne sort pas indemne.

Zap Mama Supermoon

The Concord Music Group, a leader in contemporary jazz and world music recording, today announced the signing of an exclusive deal with Zap Mama, the Grammy-nominated Belgian vocalist and performer whose debut recording on the label, Supermoon , is scheduled for release on September 3, 2007.

Born in the Congo, but raised in Belgium, Zap Mama – also known as Marie Daulne – has spent her career criss-crossing continents and winning the hearts of thousands of fans, while introducing her musical heritage to the world and uniting musical cultures through the wonders of voice, music and dynamic performance.

Supermoon is an engaging blend of world, soul, pop, jazz and other subtle shades too numerous to mention, with guest musicians from around the globe: drummer Tony Allen; bassists Meshell Ndegeocello and Will Lee; guitarists David Gilmore and Michael Franti; pianists Leon Pendarvis, Daniel Freiberg and Robbie Kondor; percussionist Bashiri Johnson and many more. The album is perhaps Zap Mama’s most emotionally honest and intimate recording in her fifteen-year discography.

“This record and this partnership with Heads Up represent a new beginning for me and for my career,” says Daulne. “There is so much more of my music and myself that I want to share with the world, and this is my opportunity to do it. It’s a very intimate record. You’re seeing me very close up. I hope that’s a kind of intimacy that people will understand. I’m opening a door to who I am.”

L'occasion de se commémorer le discours historique de Patrice Emery Lumumba lors de son intrusion à la Déclaration de l'indépendance.
Today is the 47th anniversary of Congo Independence Day.

"Je vous demande de faire de ce 30 juin 1960 une date illustre que vous garderez ineffaçablement gravée dans vos coeurs, une date dont vous enseignerez avec fierté la signification à vos enfants, pour que ceux-ci, à leur tour, fassent connaître à leurs fils et à leurs petits-fils l'histoire glorieuse de notre lutte pour la Liberté."

Sur le fleuve Congo navigue un bateau qui n'a jamais coulé, il s'appelle Rumba. À la barre, Papa Wendo, du haut de ses 82 ans, continue à chanter sa Rumba, celle qui fait briller les yeux des danseurs, des nostalgiques et des amoureux.

Fin 2004, peut-être pour la dernière fois, Wendo a repris le chemin des studios. C'était pour le tournage du film de Jacques Sarasin "On the Rumba River".
Comme une remontée jusqu'à la source du fleuve, ce disque inclut une partie de la bande son du film ainsi que des enregistrements réalisés en 1950 et 1992.

Along the Congo River sails a boat which never sank. A boat called Rumba. As the helm, Papa Wendo, 82 years young, continues to sing his rumba, the irresistible music that sets alight the eyes of dancers, and conjures up soft and sad nostalgia.
At the end of 2004, and perhaps for the last time, Wendo went back into the recording studio as part of "On the Rumba River", a film about him directed by Jacques Sarasin.
Just like a return upstream to the source, this CD also features some of the film's sound track as well as recordings made in 1950 and 1992.
